The festivities abound near Sonnet apartments in DC on U Street.
From the end of Thanksgiving to the heart of the holidays, there never seems to be enough time to check everyone off your list. Here’s a little help for getting those last few done— on the way to or from a beautiful Sonnet apartment.
The Black Cat
For decades, the Black Cat New Year’s Eve Ball has been one of the hottest NYE tickets in DC and this year will be no different. With two floors filled with music and four distinct spaces, this party is a sure-fire way to go big for the night. Enjoy a retro swing scene with Peaches O’Dell and her Orchestra performing throughout the night on the Mainstage with lounge act Tony Anthony and his Malvivants providing entertainment in the intermissions between sets. On the Backstage, DJ Dredd will spin his genre-bending mix of pop, hip-hop, soul, and dance classics. There’s no dress code (though we advise against any thought of dressing as Baby New Year), so come dressed to the nines or just the fours. The Red Room Bar and Food For Thought Café will also be open, rounding out the spaces and offering up some tasty food options throughout the night.
Provision No. 14
A “roaring” good time is on offer at Provision 14 with a Prohibition-themed celebration. Don’t worry about a lack of drinks; the 18th Amendment has been repealed and they are celebrating with mixologists and craft drinks to make sure this place the bee’s knees, or maybe even the cat’s pajamas! This promises to be a fancy affair, so you will need to dress with style.
If you’re looking for a New Year’s Eve event with a selection of craft beers to put a smile on even the most discerning beer snob’s face, this is the place to be. Spend your evening selecting your drinks from one of the best beer lists in all of DC, and enjoy an excellent array of snacks to pair it with. If you’re not completely sold on the beer, have no fear. ChurchKey also has an exquisite selections of wines and curated cocktails on offer.

Turn back the clock to the 1990s as 2019 dawns with White Ford Bronco at the illustrious 9:30 Club. Watch DC’s favorite cover band strut their stuff as you’re transported back to a time ruled by Jonathan Taylor Thomas, slap bracelets and Carlton’s dance moves. The set list will be filled with pop radio gems of the decade, a perfect soundtrack to a fun-filled evening that will conclude with a champagne toast at midnight.
Welcome to your low-key option, with no reservations needed. Add to that no cover, great drink specials, free party favors and bar bites and Sudhouse is a solid contender for a super easy and casual NYE celebration.
And when next New Year’s Eve rolls around, Sonnet will be one of the best places in DC to ring in the new year, if you’re a resident or guest. While you’ll probably have to supply your own food and drink, the amenities are some of the best you could ask for from any venue. Spend the last minutes of the year playing pool with your friends or toasting the New Year on the rooftop.
